Conference @ Santubong Resort

Lulu went to Santubong resort last Fri, Sat and Sun. The temple that she joins (KBS) organised a buddhism conference there, the theme being '50 years of Malaysian Buddhism'. Speakers and participants came from all over Malaysia and even Taiwan.

Friday nite was the welcoming dinner. Being a member of the KBS cultural troop, Lulu took part in performing 4 dances.

And Lulu attended the conference, listening to paper presentations by speakers. Some of them were old buddhist workers who have witnessed the progress of Malaysian Buddhism (in which they themselves are a piece of history), some are younger ones who are concerned about future of Malaysian buddhism (in which our hope lies). Lulu managed to meet this speaker from Kedah, Ho Nai Kin. He is a buddhist, an expert of Paddy rice and biotechnologist himself, and also an author. Being a scientist and buddhist, who also do literature, he gave a talk on the technology of gene manipulation, relating it to the teachings of Buddha. His title is ' A world hidden in a rice grain' (direct translation). Lulu came across him few years back from some article in a buddhist magazine, and bought one of his book on gene manipulation in 2002. She's really happy that she get to meet him in person at last. Cause Lulu think it's not easy to find someone who is a biologist who also understands buddhism enough to try explain buddha's teachings using life science facts.

Looking back at 50 years of independence, and 50 years of Malaysian buddhism, history tells us that there is much to be done. And being one among the younger generation buddhists, we should cherish whatever that we have and try our best to pass down the light of wisdom which was lighten more than 2500 years ago.
