Today I attended seminar talk given by speakers from University of Melbourne. It was held in the meeting hall in 3rd floor. The first speaker is the dean of Faculty of Food and Land from the uni, whereas the second speaker is the head of school of forest management. They talked about transgenic crops and forest canopy mangement respectively. When I listened to their presentations, I had the feeling that they are really GOOD! Good in terms that they don't really need to look at their slides to do the talking (as we usually read from slides). And in order to do that, one must be very familiar with the contents, so as one can speak with confidence. That's whom we call "EXPERTs". They really know their research work and also work of others at their fingertips. And they are concern about knowledge transfer, about environment. Real scientists they are! I wish that someday in future I could be one too. But firstly, I have to overcome my laziness and also the power of procrastination. Heh!

I'm auditing Experimental Design class this sem. It is mostly about statistical analysis. It has been long since I touched Statistics during my undergrad. This one is a bit advance, like how to make decision whether to accept or reject a hypothesis based on statistical analysis. This is something useful especially when I'm a PhD student because I need to come out with data that are convincing, which means the experimental design is important. However, last Monday lecture of 2 hours, I sat there blur-and-der, came out the hall feeling the head heavy. Maybe I'm getting older. (T_T) Luckily, today's lesson is ok. I seemed to understand better. So I keep nodding my head (unconciously) during lecture. Then I heard the guy junior sitting behind me whispering to his friend "macam lah dia faham sangat". Haha. I don't think he is a student from our biotech programme, cause if so he would have known that I'm a senior. (Our class is made up of 2nd year students from aquatic, biotech and zoology programmes). Well, I'm not nodding my head to show off or what (cause according to the lecturer, students usually go blank in the class), it's just my natural behaviour (subconciously) when I'm able to understand the lectures. Because I've been there doing research experiments, and I could understand a bit better when it comes to application. That's all. =P
