In our one of our departmental seminar series last wednesday, Dr Ed gave a talk on research@ DMB: past, present & future. I quoted a few words from his talk that are worth pondering:
"When I'm doing my PhD, my supervisor told me in order to get out of her lab, I need to eat, sleep and breathe research. Family, hobbies etc are secondary. Research is priority."
"Research is not a game. Research is serious."
"In research, you can accept nothing other than perfection."
Hmm... Maybe this is what doing research should be like, in order to succeed and contribute to knowledge. And I realise I'm far from that standard... Really have to work harder.
