O Rings

I went to ZP last Sunday to fix a few of my loosen brackets. In order to do so, some of the elastic bands that hold the wire to the brackets needed to be cut off. After fixing the loosen brackets, ZP asked if I want to try using elastic bands of different colour like “GREEN” (according to him, to celebrate the coming Hari Raya) and I agreed (because green is my favourite, hehe).

Besides that, ZP added ‘O rings’ (indicated by red arrows) to both my right canine teeth. The ‘O rings’ will apply force that causes transitional movement of my canine teeth so that my second/lateral incisors (indicated by red arrows) and central incisor (blue arrow) have enough space to move in to level them.
According to ZP, normally in orthodontic treatment, the first step is leveling of the teeth (aided by the titanium wires) then follows by transitional movement to close up the gaps between the premolars and canine teeth. However, in my case in which some of my incisors are too ‘off the line’ due to teeth crowding, slight transitional movement is necessary while teeth leveling is in process.

This morning I woke up finding that the gums that hold my canine teeth bled. I guess it is due to the force of the ‘O rings’. And if you ask me what’s the most torturing thing that could happen to me these few days? It is none other than “Can see, can think about the yummy food but cannot bite/chew them!” =(
