Dear XR,
...............
Arguably we all want things to go our way, but such contemplation is not science and is the anti-thesis of what your thesis seeks ...... the truth. Remember that we are in the process of unraveling scientific truth, not our truth.........
It would be really convenient and easy for grad students to just follow a set of instruction, obtain expected results, follow guided analysis and interpretation, and have a template on reporting the type of findings obtained. But then, that process is not research - especially if one is on a doctoral path of study..............
There is no easy way. There is no short cut. There is also no sure thing in science. If there is, we all won't have a job or anything else to study. Every natural biological phenomenon would have been found and explained a long time ago..............
In research, when problems are real it may be expected that consolation should be given. But, that's not the reality of being a scientist. I think, as a supervisor of your work at this stage, I should tell you to get up from your fall, stand up and soldier on. Although it may be a natural phenomenon for all grad students to go through trouble times, it is not ok to let the problem become a real dead trap. Time for lamenting and soulsearching should take a backstage, and time for real thinking and hard work should resume.
