My training in Taiwan took place mostly in NHRI Miaoli. The labs are big and well equipped. We did 2 major experiments there, one on cancer cells and the other on zebrafish model.

Besides NHRI, I was given the chance to visit a few institutions during my 2 week stay there.

Synchroton Radiation CentreThe visits to these learning and research institutions are really an eye opener for me. They have a lot of hard core facilities that I've never seen (some never heard of and we are not allowed to take pictures) and their research is good and forefront (publications in NCS). I could only express 'phew' and 'wow' silently inside my heart so that I won't look too 'kampung'. One best thing is that these institutions give out quite a number of generous scholarships for postgrads. So if any of you out there is really interested to further your study at PhD level, or consider doing your postdocs overseas, besides US, UK and Australia, Taiwan could probably be another option.

nana: it's a radiation centre. they do protein crystalisation there and some other research. i've been to another lab in academia sinica. they have robotic arm doing high throughput screening but we not allowed to take photo.
