Dance workshop

I went to the 2nd Kuching International Dance Festival last weekend and participated in some of the workshops held at Four point. It was a brand new experience for me as I've never taken part in any dance workshop before. A dance workshop is not too much different from scientific workshop except that you don't get to sit down and listen over a long period of time. Dancing is all about moving your body parts right?
I followed a Classical Indian Dance ~Bharatanatyam workshop by Ms Savithri on the second day and suffered legs muscle pain immediately that afternoon. Here's a video clip to show some of the movements we learnt in speed 1

And this one is in speed 3
Look at their steps, impressive isn't it?
Another workshop that I attended is on choreography by the Lorita Leung Chinese Dance Company from Canada. They brought us this piece of dancework adapted from 'Cats' and we used that to experiment a bit with the aspects of choreography eg. directions, speed, level and dynamics.

We were given a nice bag each from them after the workshop. They are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year. The lady in white T is the vice principal of the school, Ms Jessica Jone.

I get to follow 2 workshops on Korean Drum on the first and last day. They were conducted by Ms Becky Liu from Alan & Becky Dance Group from Hong Kong. We began with the basics of Korean dance, breathing and moved on to the rhythms and beats in Korean Drum dance.
Taking photo with a sweet little dancer who performed a solo Korean dance in full costume.

The little girl who taught me Korean Drum songs and beats.

With Ms Becky the instructor. She's really a wonderful person. You can feel her passion in dancing even just by listening to her talking.
